Anaesthesia and intensive care Anaesthesia and intensive care support is supervised by Louise Clark, with the assistance of our highly trained nursing team and five veterinary interns. Many patients require some type of anaesthesia, sedation or pain relief as part of their diagnostic investigation or treatment. Animals receive an anaesthetic protocol based on their individual problems and requirements. The wide variety of drugs and different analgesic techniques, such as epidural analgesia and local anaesthetic nerve blocks, allow us to provide pain relief. Our extensive range of anaesthetic monitoring equipment is tailored to each patient, depending on the severity of their condition and the risk of the procedure. Electrocardiography, pulse oximetry, capnography, inspired gas monitoring, temperature, invasive and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring as well as central venous pressure monitoring are available. Critically ill patients that require a high degree of monitoring and nursing enter our dedicated intensive care ward. This allows all round access to the case, which may require high dependency therapy, such as ventilatory support. Overnight case care is provided by one of our five veterinary interns. We are proud that we are able to offer this level of care and support to our patients. |
