Pet Care: Fact Sheets

Caring for your pet
Your pet doesn’t have to have a major health problem in order to benefit from the expertise of your vet! You might just have concerns about your dog’s diet, your cat’s claws or simply need advice on worming, inoculations, behaviour or breeding.

In these cases your vet is always a sensible first port of call. Your vet will be able to give you clear, professional and unbiased information on all aspects of pet care to ensure that your animal remains in the best possible health.

The role of the specialist
Sometimes, if your pet has a serious or persistent condition, it might benefit from the clinical and technical expertise that only a specialist practice can provide. In these instances your vet might decide to refer your pet to a Veterinary Specialist with key expertise in your pet’s particular problem area.

The procedure works in the same way as in human medicine when your GP might choose to refer you to a consultant at a hospital. Davies Veterinary Specialists has more RCVS Recognised Specialists under one roof than any other UK referral practice, providing consultations in most disciplines. After consultation and treatment your own veterinary surgeon will continue to provide general veterinary care.
