Lea qualified from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna in 1999. She studied for her doctoral thesis from 1999-2001 and from 2001-2004 was Resident in Surgery at the University. She gained additional experience at the Universities of Zurich and Edinburgh and at Davies Veterinary Specialists.

She gained the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2007, joining Davies Veterinary Specialists as a soft tissue surgeon later that year.

"When I started my first job as a vet I saw a lot of traumatized cats and dogs with severe orthopaedic and soft tissue injuries. The challenge of helping them recover as soon and as completely as possible has initially led me to becoming a surgeon.
