Malcolm J Brearley
MA VetMB MSc(Clin Onc) FRCVS DipECVIM-CA (Onc.) RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Oncology Malcolm qualified from the Cambridge Veterinary School in 1981, returning as a House Surgeon after a brief spell in general practice. He moved on to the Royal College of Surgeons of England (London) as a Research Fellow and then to the Small Animal Hospital, University of Liverpool as Resident in Small Animal Internal Medicine. From 1990 until April 2000, he was Head of Oncology at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket. He was awarded his Diploma of Fellowship by the RCVS in 1992 for his thesis on Cystoscopy in Dogs and in 1999 he gained an MSc in Clinical Oncology (with distinction) from the University of Birmingham. He has published over 20 papers in referred journals, edited one book, with chapters in another five, and speaks regularly at meetings in England, continental Europe and USA. He is a member of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, the British Association of Cancer Research, the European Society of Veterinary Oncology, the Veterinary Cancer Society (USA) and the newly formed British Veterinary Oncology Group of which he has just completed a term as Chairman. Recently elected onto the Board of the European Society of Veterinary Oncology . In 2005 Malcolm became a founding Diplomate of the Oncology Sub-Specialty of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Companion Animals. It is highly rewarding to work in a practice where my clinical skills are valued and can be fully utilised to the benefit of the patient. The ability to work closely with clinical colleagues allows an effective multi-modal approach to cancer treatment, improving outcomes and maximising quality of life for the patient.
