Supporting Future Veterinary Nurses: OSCE Preparation Morning at Davies

12th November 2025

At Davies Veterinary Specialists, we are passionate about supporting the next generation of veterinary professionals. On 11th October, we hosted another OSCE preparation morning for student veterinary nurses, designed to help them build confidence and refine their practical skills ahead of their Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).

The event was kindly sponsored by IMS Euro, a leading supplier of veterinary medical consumables. Thanks to their generous support, all proceeds from the morning were donated to Vetlife, the independent charity that provides emotional, financial, and mental health support to everyone in the veterinary community, 24/7, 365 days a year.

What Are OSCEs and Why Do They Matter?

OSCEs are a key practical component of veterinary nurse training in the UK. They assess a student’s ability to perform essential clinical tasks under exam conditions, ensuring competence in “Day One Skills” required for registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Typically, candidates rotate through multiple stations, each testing different skills such as fluid therapy, medication administration, laboratory diagnostics, and patient care. Passing OSCEs is often the final step before qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).

A Morning of Learning and Collaboration

The session welcomed student nurses from surrounding practices as well as our own Davies team. It was an opportunity to practise hands-on skills, share experiences, and receive guidance from experienced professionals in a supportive environment. Events like these reflect our commitment to Continued Professional Development (CPD) and to fostering collaboration across the veterinary community.

Celebrating Success

We are thrilled to share that one of the students who attended the OSCE morning has since passed her exams and qualified as a veterinary nurse. This achievement highlights the value of preparation and the importance of creating spaces where students can learn and grow.

Why We Support Vetlife

The veterinary profession can be rewarding, but it also comes with unique challenges. Vetlife plays a vital role in supporting veterinary professionals through its helpline, health support, and financial assistance services. Demand for these services continues to rise, making fundraising efforts like ours essential for sustaining their work.

Thank You

A huge thank you to IMS Euro for sponsoring the event, to our dedicated team at Davies for organising, and to all the student nurses who joined us. Your enthusiasm and commitment to learning inspire us every day.
