Our story
We’re a dedicated, experienced and passionate team of Veterinary Specialists, nurses and professionals based in Hertfordshire. We’ve been providing outstanding care for 25 years and are one of the largest and most diverse veterinary referral hospitals in Europe.
Established in 1998, by Dr Jerry Davies and his wife Olivia, as the UK’s first specialist referral centre set up outside of the traditional university-based system. Today, we employ more than 200 Specialist Veterinary clinicians, Registered Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary professionals and provide care for more than 10,000 patients every year.

To be open and collaborative by ensuring we keep our pet owners and referring vets informed at every stage of treatment.

Our facilities
Located in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, our rural and peaceful location gives our patients space to exercise and also makes visiting your pet a more comfortable and personal experience. Davies Veterinary Specialists’ hospital is designed to ensure that the very best care, including nutritional management and physiotherapy, can be provided at all times.
With six wards including an intensive care unit, a separate cat ward and an isolation unit, we can comfortably treat and care for 90 patients at any one time. Each ward is staffed by dedicated patient care nurses, who quickly get to know each patient’s clinical problems and particular character.
Davies Veterinary Specialists’ intensive care unit means that we can manage and monitor both post-surgical as well as medically ill cases 24 hours a day, whilst five theatres are comprehensively equipped for anaesthesia and monitoring. Other state-of-the-art facilities and procedures we offer include 11 consulting rooms, on-site laboratory, diagnostic facilities, orthopaedic theatre, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, neurosurgery (including spinal surgery and brain surgery), cardiology and anaesthesia.
