Dizzee’s Story: How Careful Planning Prevented a Second Injury

2nd February 2026

When Dizzee came to Davies, the team was faced with a challenging case. Dizzee had suffered a serious fracture of the right humerus, which needed immediate surgical repair. These injuries can happen suddenly, even during normal activity, and often there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

Looking Beyond the Obvious

To fully understand the fracture, our orthopaedic team performed a CT scan. This advanced imaging confirmed the complex break on the right side, but it also revealed something important: a fissure on the left humerus, affecting both the shaft of the bone and the elbow joint.

While this fissure wasn’t causing pain at the time, it posed a risk of future injury. Identifying it early meant we could take steps to protect Dizzee from another difficult recovery.

A Thoughtful Two-Step Approach

The team created a plan to address both issues:

Day 1: Repair the right humeral fracture.

Day 2: Stabilise the left humeral fissure with a plate and transcondylar screw to strengthen the bone and reduce the chance of a future fracture.

Recovery and Results

Dizzee recovered well from both procedures:

The right fracture healed successfully.

The left fissure was reinforced before it could cause harm.

Today, Dizzee is back to enjoying life with confidence and comfort.

Why This Matters

Dizzee’s case shows how advanced imaging and proactive care can make a big difference. Some conditions, like humeral fissures, can be hard to spot on standard X-rays. CT scans help us see the full picture and plan treatment that protects a dog’s long-term wellbeing.

Looking After Active Dogs

If your dog has unexplained forelimb lameness or stiffness, a thorough assessment can help rule out hidden issues. At Davies, our goal is simple: to keep dogs active, healthy, and happy for years to come.
