Davies Veterinary Specialists is proud to introduce our dedicated Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) service, led by a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and supported by a highly skilled team of experienced ICU nurses. Our intensive care unit provides round-the-clock monitoring and care for critically ill patients, ensuring each case receives prompt, expert, and compassionate care.
Common conditions managed within our ICU can include:
- Acute abdomens (pancreatitis, septic peritonitis, gastrointestinal obstruction, gall bladder rupture)
- Bleeding disorders (immune-mediated disease, haemabdomen, coagulopathy)
- Cluster seizures
- Congestive heart failure, pericardial effusion, cardiac arrhythmias
- Electrolyte abnormalities
- Endocrine emergencies (Diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoglycaemia, Addisonian crisis)
- Trauma (road traffic accidents, traumatic brain injury, dog bite wounds)
- Respiratory distress (aspiration pneumonia, pyothorax, pneumothorax and upper airway obstruction)
- Sepsis
- Toxicities
Our ICU is equipped to provide:
- Continuous multi-parameter monitoring and bedside ultrasonography
- Oxygen therapy, including temperature-controlled oxygen cages
- Digital radiography, abdominal ultrasound and advanced imaging (MRI, CT)
- Blood transfusions (with blood typing and cross matching)
- Fully equipped in-house laboratory for rapid diagnostics
- Nutritional support including enteral and parenteral feeding
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation
As a multidisciplinary referral hospital, our specialist ECC service works closely with specialists across Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Anaesthesia, Dentistry, Ophthalmology and Diagnostic Imaging to deliver truly individualised care for each patient.
This collaborative approach ensures every animal benefits from a seamless, tailored treatment plan designed to achieve the best possible outcome.
