Maura Lazzarotto is a second-generation veterinarian. She grew up visiting farms in rural western-Canada helping her father who is a now retired dairy veterinary surgeon. Some of her earliest childhood memories are of being read stories from James Herriot which she says likely influenced her from a very early age.

She moved to India when she was a teenager and lived in western India completing her high school years at an international college outside of Pune, Maharastra. She returned to Canada and pursued a Bachelor of Science in Global Resource Systems from the University of British Columbia before taking a gap year to backpack and hitch hike through East Africa. After a summer milking cows on a dairy farm, she decided to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.

Maura was in general practice for 3 years before starting her residency training in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery with Dr Russell Tucker in Auckland, New Zealand. Maura moved to Seattle in 2018 to finish her training with Dr GG Riggs and became Department Head in 2019 at BluePearl Veterinary Specialists in Downtown Seattle.

Maura joins us with a strong interest in endodontics and oral surgery. Regenerative endodontics in juvenile dogs and jaw-sparring oncology surgeries are two areas of dentistry and oral surgery that she wishes to research in the future. She is passionate about veterinary dental education and looks forward to growing the veterinary internship and residency programme at Davies Veterinary Specialists.
