Veterinary Orthopaedics

Veterinary Orthopaedics

The investigation and treatment of a wide range of orthopaedic conditions in both dogs and cats.

We’re proud to be a centre of excellence in Orthopaedic care for dogs and cats. Our highly trained surgeons investigate and treat a wide range of Orthopaedic conditions in both cats and dogs on a daily basis. Cases typically referred to us include all forms of lameness, trauma fracture repair (mostly road traffic accidents) and the correction of limb deformities.

If you have been referred to us with a Pet Orthopaedic issue you’ll be glad to know you’re in safe hands. Our team knows that an accurate diagnosis is crucial to ensuring the correct advice and treatment is given. That’s why we always give a thorough 45-minute consultation. On-site access to conventional x-rays, ultrasound, MRI, electromyography, arthroscopy, as well as easy access to CT and bone scanning, also ensure we provide an exceptional service for every patient.

Before we begin any treatment our Orthopaedic surgeons will advise you on your pet’s condition, the causes, the options for treatment, the prognosis and the costs that may be incurred along the way.

Please be aware our Orthopaedic team are happy to discuss difficult cases with professional colleagues, but cannot discuss specific cases with pet owners without a formal referral from their primary veterinary surgeon.

Veterinary Orthopaedics: Services at Davies Vets

The Davies team offer a wide range of services for orthopaedic cases. We have state of the art facilities for diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care.

Our experienced orthopaedic specialists at Cave Veterinary Specialists provide advanced diagnosis and treatment for a wide array of musculoskeletal conditions, ensuring your pet’s comfort and mobility.

Common Veterinary Orthopaedic Issues We Address:

  • Cruciate Ligament Injuries (including TPLO):
    • Cruciate ligament tears are a frequent cause of lameness in dogs. We perform Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO), a proven technique to stabilise the knee, reduce pain, and restore function.
  • Patellar Luxation (Kneecap Dislocation):
    • We offer solutions for dislocated kneecaps, ranging from Tibial Tuberosity Transposition (TTT) and trochlear block recession for routine cases, to advanced procedures for complex deformities. Utilising CT scans and 3D-printed surgical guides, we can correct angular limb deformities or perform patellar groove replacement.
  • Trauma and Fracture Management:
    • Our team excels in handling traumatic orthopaedic injuries, including simple and complex fractures, joint dislocations, and wound management. We employ minimally invasive techniques and both internal and external fixation methods. We have a multidisciplinary approach for complex trauma patients.
  • Angular Limb Deformities:
    • We utilise advanced technology, including 3D-printed alignment guides and plates, to precisely correct limb deformities, improving your pet’s mobility and quality of life.
  • Severe Joint Disease and Damage:
    • For severely compromised joints, we offer limb-sparing procedures and arthrodesis (joint fusion) to alleviate pain and restore function.
  • Arthroscopy:
    • We also offer diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy for conditions such as elbow dysplasia and OCD.
